Future Teacher Graduate Training Programme (Northamptonshire)

Location: Northamptonshire (Partner secondary schools)

Start Date: September 2025 - flexible start

Contract: Full Academic Year (Fixed-Term)

This paid, full-time position offers hands-on experience as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor, with guidance and mentorship to prepare you for teacher training. The programme is open to graduates in English, Maths, Science, Art, Business, Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages, or Psychology.

This is a paid, full-time position where you will gain hands-on experience as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor, while receiving guidance and mentorship to prepare you for your next steps in teacher training.

Programme Overview:

Responsibilities
  • Classroom Experience: as a Teaching Assistant or Cover Supervisor, support teachers in lesson delivery, provide 1:1 and small group support, and help keep students on task.
  • Training & CPD: receive tailored training in key teaching strategies, classroom management, and lesson delivery, plus workshops on educational theory, safeguarding, and special educational needs.
  • Support and Mentorship: be paired with a mentor who will guide your professional development, helping you build teaching skills and confidence.
  • Opportunities for Progression: if you excel, there will be the opportunity to apply for a place on a teacher training programme (such as a PGCE or SCITT) through one of our partner schools.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Learning: work closely with students to reinforce lesson content, provide additional explanations, and offer academic support to individuals or small groups.
  • Classroom Management: help maintain a positive learning environment by supporting teachers with behaviour management and ensuring students are on task.
  • Engagement: actively engage with students, promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
  • Personal Development: take ownership of your own learning journey by participating in CPD opportunities, mentoring sessions, and feedback discussions.
What We're Looking For
  • Qualifications: a degree (or due to graduate in 2025) in English, Maths, Science, Psychology, or a related subject; GCSE Maths and English; sufficient right to work.
  • Interest in Teaching: a passion for education with a clear desire to become a qualified teacher.
  • Skills: strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work effectively with young people.
  • Personality: an enthusiastic, hardworking, and adaptable individual who thrives in a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Experience: whilst not required, experience with young people is desirable; applications from recent graduates are welcome.
