Graduate Programme – Electrical Engineer

Location: Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, Ellesmere Port

The Role

Non-rotational Graduate Programme – a three-year program that focuses within a specific skillset area. These Graduate Schemes are designed to grow and develop a core skillset and associated learnings.

You will join a busy team core to the operation of the business. The program is designed to provide exposure to the wide range of activities that the department is involved in and provide wider exposure to the business operations. It will develop your technical skills in safety, critical systems, environmental monitoring and compliance, process plant automation, instrumentation technology, electrical supply & generation and electrical distribution at voltages up to and including 132kV.

One of the primary focuses will involve support of a running production unit with regards to all aspects of the automation and safety shut-down systems. This provides a highly varied and challenging experience with responsibility for a wide range of equipment and business requirements. This provides an excellent opportunity to not only enhance technical skills but also to work with other disciplines across the business to resolve genuine business challenges. It will also introduce the legal and regulatory requirements for the business, such as COMAH requirements and management of change.

Another primary focus involves working within the electrical team supporting the team’s subject matter experts in all aspects of electrical engineering, involving design, construction and maintenance. The refinery operates an extensive High Voltage (HV) electrical network including several generators and many HV machines. This will be an excellent environment to continue to build your skillset in all aspects of electrical personal and process safety and regulatory compliance, alongside those required to ensure electrical supply availability and reliability within a large-scale manufacturing facility.

Additional placements will build on the knowledge gained and can focus on a number of areas such as project development or control systems. These placements are agreed based on business requirements and the development needs and aspirations of the individual.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be a Graduate with an IET accredited MENG Degree in electrical or electronic engineering or a related subject with at least a 2:1 Grading.

You will be a highly driven, dedicated and flexible individual, who is able to work effectively in a fast paced and constantly changing environment. You will be willing to learn and develop within Essar and be proactive with regards to your own development. You are required to be highly literate, with exceptional IT skills in Microsoft programmes.

Essar fully support progression towards Chartered engineer status with the IET and will provide support and mentorship to enable individuals to progress towards this objective.

Successful candidates will be required to be confident communicators, both in written and verbal styles, and hold the confidence to present to a wide variety of Stakeholders; both internally and externally. Resilience and willingness to take responsibility will be highly sought after characteristics within our successful candidate.
