Graduate Civil Engineer - Rail (Birmingham). Join the Jacobs Graduate Development Programme (GDP) to have a meaningful, positive impact on environments, communities and societies. The GDP is a structured two-year scheme designed to support your development at the start of your Jacobs career journey, with blended learning, mentoring, progress reviews and networking across four focus areas: human skills, consulting skills, championing our strategy and your passions. The programme is on-the-job focused and customised to reflect your interests, career goals and technical skillset, creating a graduate experience unique to you. It is a launchpad for your career, offering tools, experiences and support as you work on meaningful projects and collaborate with industry leaders to deliver outcomes for complex challenges. The successful candidate will join Jacobs\' Rail Civils team and support the delivery of exciting projects in the transportation sector, particularly within the guided transport systems built environment. Training is provided under a structured mentorship framework to support professional development towards attaining a professional engineering body qualification. The programme may include discrete periods of discipline/team rotation to broaden technical knowledge, problem solving, commercial acumen and communication skills. You will be exposed to stages of scheme development from initial concept through to construction. The start date for this role is September 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects by contributing to the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme reports, structural designs and assessments and other technical deliverables.
  • Work within the Rail Civils team to assist on projects across the transportation sector, with on-the-job training and mentorship.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to develop understanding of multi-disciplinary principles and broaden technical knowledge base.
