Job description
GRADUATE - FLOOD RISK

Bedfordshire

Our client is seeking a competent and motivated Graduate Civil Engineer to join a successful civil engineering design practice in Bedford.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Drainage Strategy Reports for planning submissions.
  • Assist with the preparation of drainage strategy drawings.
  • Assist with hydraulic modelling and drainage calculations.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and calculations for planning applications.
  • Contribute to site appraisals, including reviewing flood maps, soil data, and planning constraints.
  • Liaise with internal/external project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with drainage design submissions for planning and discharge of conditions.
  • Undertake other duties as required to support the engineering team's project delivery.
Requirements for this Graduate Civil Engineer role
  • Civil Engineering degree or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen interest in flood risk, drainage, and sustainable development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Desirable

  • Some experience (e.g. through placement or internship) in flood risk or drainage design.
  • Experience using Causeway Flow or similar hydraulic modelling software.
