The GP Receptionist plays avital role in the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. As the first pointof contact for patients and visitors, the post holder is responsible forproviding a welcoming, professional, and efficient reception service, primarily on the phone but also online and in person. They willassist with a variety of administrative duties to support patient care andensure the effective functioning of the surgery.

Main duties of the job

Reception and Patient Interaction

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Answer telephone and face-to-face enquiries, signposting patients appropriately.
  • Book, amend, and cancel patient appointments using the clinical system (e.g. SystmOne).
  • Support patients with queries relating to appointments, prescriptions, test results, and general enquiries.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing communications, including emails, letters, and documents.

Administrative Support

  • Process repeat prescription requests following practice protocols.
  • Scan, upload, and file clinical and non-clinical correspondence to patient records.
  • Manage and monitor patient recall and reminder systems.
  • Maintain patient records accurately and confidentially.
  • Prepare documents for clinics and assist clinical staff with administrative needs.

Confidentiality and Compliance

  • Adhere to confidentiality policies at all times, in line with GDPR and practice procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with practice policies, including health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection.

Middlestown Medical Centre is a General PracticePartnership open to all patients living within ourpractice boundary of Middlestown and the surroundingareas including including Emley, Flockton and Grange Moor.

We work in partnership with our patients, PatientParticipation Group, staff and our Primary Care Network to provide high qualitymedical services for our patients. Westrive and are proud to provide patient centred care, with equality of accessand open accessibility for both same day and routine appointments.

We help patients to manage their health and preventillness. Our team assess, diagnose, treat and manage illness. receive the best and most appropriate health and/or social care.Our GPs also provide the link to further health services and work closely withother healthcare colleagues. They may also arrange hospital admissions andreferrals to other services and specialists, sharing informationwhere needed.

The practice is based across 3 sites. The main purpose-built site at Middlestown, has 15 consultation rooms, from which same day and routinemedical services are provided as well as reception, administrative anddispensing services. Emley Clinic and Flockton Surgery, both owned by thepartnership, facilitate routine appointments and dispensing services.
