Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice to join our Greenkeeping team at The Belfry, England’s leading Hotel and Resort. We have 320 bedrooms, Rosette standard dining, five food and beverage outlets, fantastic leisure facilities including our 20 treatment rooms & pool, and of course, what we are famous for…golf. We have an exciting year ahead at The Belfry, starting with hosting The British Masters in August 2024, and continuing with the launch of new training and development opportunities and incentives. The Belfry is synonymous with golf and has hosted the Ryder Cup four times – more than any other venue in the world. Our world-class golf courses have produced some of the most dramatic moments in the history of the sport. They attract players from the UK and beyond looking to relive the Ryder Cup magic, improve their game, and to make use of the unrivalled state-of-the-art golfing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • The Greenkeeping team look after all the 3 Golf Courses and living landscape at the Belfry Hotel and Resort. Due to the world-class nature of our courses, our golfers have high expectations, and we have similarly high expectations of ourselves and what we deliver. We are uncompromising on our standards – ensuring our courses and our teams look fantastic.
Salary

The on-target earning potential for this role is £ per hour comprising of a base hourly rate of £11 per hour plus a qualified estimate of £ gratuities per hour

About the apprenticeship

This will be a 2-year Apprenticeship within Greenkeeping, covering all aspects of the role of a Greenkeeper and completing an NVQ 2 with our partnership College provider, who specialise in education and training for land-based and sports industries.

You will also be required to:

  • To fully commit to the Greenkeeping apprenticeship and embrace all aspects of training and learning.
  • To undertake general course maintenance on a daily basis under the direction of Deputy Head Greenkeeper to ensure that the golf course are maintained to the Belfry Brand Standards.
  • To undertake bunker maintenance daily including; raking, edging, re-sanding and debris clearance to the required standards.
  • To undertake mowing duties on a daily / weekly basis as required and operate the relevant machinery in line with health and safety regulations and operational standards.
  • To undertake general mowing duties on a daily basis once competent including; greens, tees, fairways, rough, semi-rough areas to the required standards.
  • To carry out other duties that may be required from time to time. Construction and course improvements.
  • Carry out their duties with an awareness that you are guest-facing, and representing The Belfry, following all standards to a high degree.
  • To adhere to all Health & Safety aspects concerning the department.
About you

Our Greenkeeping team is a group of friendly and hardworking individuals with a passion for what they do and an ability to work individually and as a team. We are looking for someone who will fit in with the culture. No formal training or experience is required for this role although the successful candidates will have:

  • You must not have completed a similar qualification at a level 2 or above
  • A desire to progress within Greenkeeping
  • A knowledge of golf is not required, However, an Interest in outdoor working would be an advantage
  • Good teamwork ethic.
  • Motivated, positive outlook, attitude, and good customer service skills
  • An interest in gardening, nature, golf, or landscaping
  • A desire to go above and beyond
