Job description

The EMEA Leveraged Finance Trading business is part of the Corporate and Investment Bank’s Global Credit Trading platform. The Loan Trading desk primarily operates as an intermediary, providing liquidity in syndicated loan commitment for its clients which include European banks, credit funds, CLO investors, hedge/distressed funds and private equity managers. It looks at opportunities across the credit spectrum, offering clients investment grade paper, special situations assets and instruments undergoing complex restructurings. The Loan Trading desk also operates as the distribution platform for syndicated loans newly issued by the bank and works closely with Debt Capital Markets and Acquisition and Leveraged Finance teams.

As a Vice President Trading Assistant within the EMEA Leveraged Finance Trading desk, you will provide support coverage to 5 traders, 9 sales personnel and 6 desk analysts and ensure the smooth running of the desk. You must be able to work on a trading floor environment as a team player and possess a keen commercial interest and analytical inquisitiveness. You will have experience of working with the loan product in stressed corporate situations and possess an ability to apply your commercial knowhow to what may seemingly be operational challenges. You will work well under pressure and be able to make quick decisions whilst multi-tasking.

Job responsibilities
  • Work with the Desk’s traders and analysts to manage stressed risk commitments through a variety of corporate action events up to full balance sheet restructurings;
  • Handle both credit specific and ad-hoc queries from traders, sales personnel and desk analysts;
  • Assist the Desk’s clients to understand the complexities of specific commercial situations with the help of its salespeople;
  • Work with the Desk’s legal and documentations teams to ensure trades and restructured lending positions are correctly documented;
  • Be on hand to assist with queries from documentation, settlements and operational teams; including making trade amendments within the Bank’s booking systems;
  • Provide reporting to senior desk management on various aspects of the business including trading volumes and client activity;
  • Affirm and enter executed loan, bond and equity trades into the relevant front office platforms where necessary;
  • Ensure the Desk’s daily risk activity is correctly reflected in the Bank’s systems;
  • Review and reconcile daily P&L reporting and investigate discrepancies;
  • Ensure the relevant KYC and credit appetite are in place for each trade and seek approval where necessary.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
  • Experience working with the syndicated loan product, preferably in an operational capacity;
  • A working knowledge of the equity and bond asset classes, including Clearing settlement;
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to solve problems methodically;
  • Accomplished Excel skills with transaction modelling and presentation experience;
  • A working knowledge of Loan IQ.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
  • Previous experience in trading support or a portfolio management assistantrole is preferable.
