Your main aim will be assisting Border Force and Customs at the Port of Dover with transhipments, offloads, and storage of freight and/or personal belongings. You will be a hands‑on, self‑motivated forklift driver, responsible for the running and management of the day‑to‑day OCS, Freight Services facility on behalf of the Dover Harbour Board.

- Training:
- Attend as necessary training courses as identified by your line manager
- Ensure that you have received the necessary training so that you can competently carry out your duties and responsibilities
- Familiarise yourself with the company's safety policy and working instructions issued by Management
- Only carry out work you are trained or being trained to do
- To carry out all tasks willingly and safely to the best of your ability
- When required support the operation with Ad Hoc works
- To work as part of a team and treat each member of that team and all other OCS staff, clients, visitors, and contractors with civility and respect at all times
- You are responsible for your own time‑keeping records and should follow the procedure for signing in/out, clocking in/out, or swiping in/out
- If you are sick, you must inform your line manager/designated person as soon as you become aware you will not be available for work and every day thereafter until covered by a doctor's sick note/self‑certification form
- The company will issue PPE free of charge and all items of PPE issued to you must be carefully stored and maintained. Any defects in any issued PPE should be advised to your line manager immediately.
- All holiday entitlement will be controlled and agreed upon by the designated person at your site and you must give reasonable notice of any planned absence to allow for coverage.
- The Company reserves the right to ask you to carry out any other reasonable duties it feels necessary to further the aims of the business.
- Ensure that the OCS safety image is reflected positively through your actions.
- Take responsibility for reviewing the safe system of work prior to the commencement of the work activity. Acknowledge and accept personal responsibility for safety.
- Take responsibility for ensuring that vehicles and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.
- Raise any concerns over Health & Safety breaches in accordance with Company Procedure ie; Near Misses.
- Carry out Ad Hoc Freight Bay Services as directed & if not already held, receive Forklift Licence through OCS.
- Ensure an excellent service is constantly delivered.
- Work with outside agencies to tranship freight between HGV trailers in a safe and professional manner.
- Work with outside agencies to offload and store freight from HGV trailers.
- Receive and follow the correct Dangerous Goods procedures when handling Dangerous Goods as per ADR and ensure training is maintained.
- Ensure payment is received for works carried out and an accurate record is maintained.
- Operate tills and PDQ equipment along with computer IT and telephones.
- To maintain the warehouse and yard areas in a safe and tidy manner which is clear of rubbish and obstacles and any external storage is in a designated area only.
- To ensure that the security measures in place on the contract are fully adhered to in relation to not only site access but also the 'directed party status' secure area.
- Ability to control additional staffing to complete tasks through communication with line management and/or agency.
- Ability to communicate with staff and the public alike.
- Self‑motivated and flexible.
- Must be physically able to move boxes, tyres, and climb steps
- Successfully complete basic and enhanced Criminal Record Checks.
- Must be self‑managed, able to work alone, with good timekeeping and trustworthiness.
- Be happy to work in an outdoor environment.
- Ability to problem solve in an innovative and flexible manner
- Good organisational skills and be able to adapt to changing circumstances promptly
- Forklift License is advantageous
