Job description

Do you want a Finance Controller role with genuine ownership and pace, where the numbers matter and people actually act on what you produce?

If you are the sort of person who can't ignore a balance sheet that does not make sense, who enjoys bringing order to month end and who wants accountability rather than comfort, this will suit you.

This is a heavily invested, fast–growing organisation operating in a regulated environment. As the business scales, finance needs someone who can keep reporting credible, controls sensible and the wider business confident in what it is seeing.

The role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will take full ownership of the Trial Balance across multiple UK legal entities. You will be responsible for running a disciplined month end and keeping the ledger in control.

Key focus areas include:

  • Owning the Trial Balance and maintaining a clear view of the financial position across multiple entities
  • Leading the month end close, ensuring the ledger is controlled and the balance sheet is reconciled and defendable
  • Producing monthly reporting packs that provide decision–grade insight: what has moved, why it has moved and what needs attention
  • Managing the reconciliation between US GAAP management reporting and UK GAAP statutory reporting, keeping compliance tight without losing grip of performance
  • Leading annual audit fieldwork as the main point of contact for auditors, controlling the timetable and quality of responses
  • Owning cash management and forecasting, maintaining clear visibility over cash position, banking activity and funding requirements
  • Managing an Assistant Accountant and the Accounts Payable team and setting standards that others follow
  • Working closely with Operations Accountants across sites to keep billing, costs and operational reporting aligned
  • Strengthening controls, improving processes and supporting the transition to a new finance system

This is not a spectator role. It will suit someone who likes responsibility, keeps standards high and can bring order without slowing the organisation down.

What you will need
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
  • Experience in a Finance Controller or senior finance role owning the ledger and leading month end
  • Confidence working directly with auditors and banks
  • Comfort operating in a fast–moving environment, with the judgement to prioritise and drive standards
  • Experience within services, project–based or engineering–led organisations is advantageous, but not essential.
Location and checks
  • Teesside based, on site four days per week
  • Occasional travel as required
  • Pre–employment checks include references and a Disclosure and Barring Service check
