Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant status is mandatory.
  • Experience with financial statements and GAAP is crucial.
  • Audit experience is expected, preferably in practice.
  • External audit experience either in practice or industry.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quarterly and annual reporting for UK Bauer entities.
  • Prepare and review statutory accounts for multiple entities.
  • Manage external audit requests and queries.
  • Oversee intercompany balance clearing and fund transfers.
  • Forecast non-operating expenditure with treasury.
  • Support the Assistant Financial Accountant.
  • Assist overseas companies with accounting entries.
  • Lead finance projects for process improvements.

Job description
About the Role

We're looking for a technically strong and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team within the Bauer Finance Hub (BFH) based in Peterborough. This fixed-term role plays a key part in delivering accurate statutory reporting for the Bauer UK group and timely financial reporting to our German parent company.

You'll be a go-to contact for technical accounting queries, lead the preparation of statutory accounts, and manage audit processes. You'll also collaborate with UK and overseas teams on intercompany transactions and support process improvement initiatives as part of BFH's continuous drive for excellence.

Location: Peterborough Hybrid (2 days in London office)

What you'll be doing
  • Lead quarterly and annual reporting for UK and overseas Bauer entities using the group consolidation system.
  • Prepare and review statutory accounts and iXBRL tagging for 13 UK entities and 2 joint ventures.
  • Act as the key contact for external auditors, managing audit requests and resolving technical queries.
  • Oversee monthly intercompany balance clearing and fund transfers across the UK group.
  • Forecast and report on non-operating expenditure, working closely with Treasury and Tax teams.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Assistant Financial Accountant and Junior Accountant.
  • Support overseas Bauer companies with monthly accounting entries.
  • Lead ad‑hoc finance projects to drive process improvements.
What you'll bring
  • Qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CIMA).
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements under UK GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of month‑end and year‑end processes.
  • External audit experience either in practice or industry.
  • SAP (S/4 HANA) knowledge is a bonus but not essential.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.
