What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a skilled, organised and enthusiastic Finance Manager to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to contribute to the strategic and day-to-day financial operations of a vibrant and forward-thinking primary school.
Working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Governors, you will ensure robust financial systems are in place, oversee budget planning and monitoring, and support the long-term financial strategy of the school.
You Will
- Manage the school's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and compliance with statutory financial requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, reconciliations and audits.
- Provide financial updates and analysis to senior leaders and Governors to support informed decision‑making.
- Oversee payroll and personnel‑related financial processes, including starters, leavers and staff absence.
- Monitor income generation activities, including lettings and contract negotiation, to ensure best value.
- Assist in the development of business plans to support the school's long‑term strategic priorities.
- Uphold the school's values, contributing to our warm, welcoming and inclusive community.

Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
Essential
- An appropriate financial or accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
- Experience managing financial operations in a busy office environment.
- School‑based financial experience in a fast‑paced setting.
- Strong ICT skills with up‑to‑date knowledge of financial software, spreadsheets, databases and Microsoft Office packages.
- High level of numeracy and accuracy with the ability to produce and interpret financial reports.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
- A warm, welcoming manner and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable
- First Aid training (or willingness to undertake it).
- Experience writing funding bids or sourcing additional income streams.
- Understanding of income generation in schools and longer‑term financial planning.
