Job Description

We are working in partnership with a high‑growth, owner‑managed business who are looking for someone to take ownership of all financial and accounting matters within the business. With an income level of £30M+ we are looking for someone with experience gained in an SME scale business. Ideally you would have a background in Civil Engineering, Construction, Engineering or other related sectors.

In this role you will own Finance Operations, Payroll, Management Accounting, Annual Accounting, Forecasting, Financial Planning, Analysis and Finance Business Partnering. We are looking for an all‑rounder who will deliver this via a team of direct reports.

Your role will include:
  • Forecast costs and income over a 3‑year horizon, set budgets, and track performance. You will analyse profitability at both company and contract level, identifying trends and opportunities.
  • Provide actionable insights to support strategic decisions and cost control, your role is to support the other Directors with information to support better cost performance and revenue growth opportunities.
  • You will be a visible presence across the business, leading a finance team, collaborating with leadership and supporting the project teams.
  • Lead finance operations: AP/AR, payroll, statutory returns, audit, tax, and VAT. You will ensure compliance with regulations and look after money coming in and out of the business.
  • Manage and optimise the accounting system, use Excel to a high‑level and perform analysis, write detailed reports and ensure this is presented in a manner that supports decision making.
Your background and experience:
  • You will be a Qualified Accountant with experience gained in an SME scale or mid‑market company as a finance leader.
  • Proven experience as Finance Director, Financial Controller or Head of Finance, your job title doesn't matter but you will have held a senior role with responsibility.
  • You will be skilled in financial reporting, analysing information and writing detailed reports with insight and analysis. You will actively partner with the business to improve financial performance.
  • Experience gained in construction or civil engineering is preferred but experience gained in related companies would be ideal, you will have strong analytical and forecasting skills with commercial acumen.
  • You will take a hands‑on approach with ability to dive into detail while maintaining strategic oversight.
