Overview

The Finance Business Partner in Volunteering is responsible for providing the first line of support and assistance with the development of financial plans, analysis of the financial performance and forecasts of the Adult Volunteering area, to provide high quality business insight to support and influence strategic decision making by St John's management teams. They will be a key member of the Financial Planning and Insight team to ensure delivery of the annual three-year budgeting process aligned to strategic operational plans. This role requires regularly meeting with relevant stakeholders to critically review and challenge reported performance against agreed plans. This role will support the Adult Volunteering part of the organisation and some other overheads/areas within the organisation.

Contract Type: Permanent

The successful candidate will need to be willing and able to attend occasional meetings in the evenings, via Teams. TOIL and flexible working arrangements facilitate this.

About You

  • You are a fully qualified professional accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Ideally you have experience in the charity sector and large complex organisations.
  • You have held a finance business partner role with a track record of supporting end-to-end processes for in-year forecasts and annual budgets and three-year plans aligned to business strategy.
  • You have significant experience in managing day-to-day, monthly and annual production of management accounting processes.
  • You possess excellent influencing skills to respectfully challenge and build networks internally and externally.
  • You are curious about change and technology, take ownership, and have a flexible, can-do mindset.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality business and financial analysis with clear outcomes and benefits to support coordinated and effective delivery of services across St John
  • Provide impactful finance business partnering to Budget Holders, the Senior Management and Executive Teams
  • Coordinate the production of monthly management accounts and the annual budgeting and in-year forecasting aligned to business plans
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial management reporting, forecasting and analysis
  • Simplify and improve financial processes to enhance the finance experience for internal and external customers
  • Utilise technology to improve the presentation and content of financial reports for Budget Holders and senior teams
  • Provide clear narrative to stakeholders and educate/analyse within the wider finance team
  • Identify financial risks and ensure controls are in place or escalated as needed
  • Identify cost and efficiency savings without compromising service quality or reporting accuracy
  • Work with operational partners to provide financial analysis for business cases, including cost/benefit of capex investments, and support submission to Executive Teams for approval
