Job description

NAWMA (Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority) isn’t just trucks and bins. We’re a purpose-driven, innovative organisation delivering waste and recycling services for over 120,000 homes, running award-winning facilities, and partnering with our community and stakeholders to build a cleaner future.

You’ll work from our contemporary Edinburgh office and join a supportive team that is passionate about what they do. We offer flexibility, including the opportunity to work from home on occasion.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and adaptable team player to join our Finance team. This is a broad role that contributes to a range of finance and payroll functions, working within a close-knit and experienced team. While experience across both finance and payroll would be ideal, we are also open to candidates who may have strengths in one area but are eager to learn and develop skills in the other.

This role offers genuine flexibility, with the position available part-time (minimum 3 days per week) or full time, subject to mutual agreement. Whether you are looking to work a few days a week or full time, we encourage you to apply and outline your preferred hours in your cover letter.

What You’ll Do
  • Process Accounts Receivable accurately and on time, including reconciliations and month-end tasks
  • Process bank reconciliations in a timely manner with great attention to detail
  • Prepare and maintain payroll data, checks and adjustments, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time
  • Maintain employee records with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Produce routine finance and payroll reports and respond to queries from staff and Management
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, controls and templates
  • Contribute to team outcomes and goals
Why Join Us?
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment that values growth, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Access opportunities for training and development, including upskilling in payroll and finance systems.
  • Be part of an organisation that makes a meaningful impact in the community and champions sustainability.
  • Enjoy flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and free onsite parking
About You

We are looking for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience in finance or payroll functions (or both), with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • High levels of accuracy, numeracy, and organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Sound time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to supporting the broader Finance team.
  • Formal qualifications and experience with finance/payroll software are desirable, but not essential — we are committed to supporting the right candidate with training and professional development.
