Overview

About this role :-
Support the Senior Finance Business Partner in the production of a high-quality Annual business plan, quarterly forecast and period end reporting and analysis. Develop understanding of cost drivers and carry out analysis of trends and financial data to assist in provision of financial insights, to support the (Senior)/Finance Business partners in driving GTR reduction of subsidy.

Duties
  • Preparing periodic Month end journals for business areas by analysing and interpreting data and building knowledge of the relevant business area to accurately reflect costs incurred.
  • Interrogating financial trends and data to enable period end variance analysis and commentary, enabling interpretation of financials
  • Assisting in the completion of high-quality forecasts, budgets & corporate plans to required deadlines, maintaining budget and forecast templates using relevant reference data.
  • Working closely with budget holders and the Senior Finance Business Partner, gaining an understanding of relevant spend bottom up and phasing of that spend to enable production of accurate budgets and forecasts, to meet the short, medium and long-term strategic goals and objectives of the business.
  • Interrogating spend to meet provide insights to (senior)/FBPs to help monitor budgetary targets whilst ensuring both internal and external (DfT) governance have been followed.
  • Assisting in production of clear and concise review documents highlighting variances as required within finance and separately to the business area (finance and non-finance) maintaining a balance in level of detail suited to the reader. Utilising consistent views across finance from sources such as Power BI to enable efficiencies within reporting.
  • Developing knowledge of finance processes, systems and commitments set out in the National Rail
  • Working actively towards attaining a professional qualified Accountant status.
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Professional Qualifications (optional but valued)
  • Part-qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent.
