Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Location: Thatcham
Position Type: Full-Time - Perm
Pay rate: £15.00-£19.00ph (after 40 hours paid at 1.5x)
About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Field Service Engineer to support, maintain, and repair large mining and construction equipment. This role involves hands-on technical expertise, problem-solving in the field, and delivering high-quality service to ensure maximum equipment uptime and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on large hydraulic shovels and excavators (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems).
- Conduct field inspections and preventative maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Accurately identify equipment faults and determine corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support, training, and guidance to customers and operators on equipment use and care.
- Prepare detailed service reports, including diagnostics performed, parts used, and work completed.
- Collaborate with engineering and product support teams to resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies while working on-site.
- Manage tools, parts, and equipment inventory effectively while in the field.
Qualifications & Skills
- Trade certification, degree, or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Heavy Equipment Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in servicing large mining/construction equipment, particularly hydraulic shovels and excavators.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and machine control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
- Competence in using diagnostic software and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong focus on safety and quality.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work independently in field environments.
Preferred Experience
- OEM or dealer background in heavy mining equipment.
- Experience with brands such as Caterpillar, Hitachi, Komatsu, or Liebherr.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring, telematics, and predictive maintenance technologies.
