The Role

We are seeking a compassionate, proactive and resilient FE Support Assistant to join our specialist team. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to ensure that learners with SEMH needs receive high‑quality support that enables them to access the curriculum, build self‑confidence and develop vital life skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1 : 1 and small‑group support for learners with SEMH needs.
  • Assist students in managing emotions, behaviour and engagement in college life.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote student wellbeing and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to adapt learning activities and resources.
  • Support students with organisation, study skills and transitions throughout the day.
  • Contribute to behaviour support plans and individual learning plans.
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Record observations, progress and concerns accurately in line with safeguarding procedures.
We are looking for someone who is :
  • Patient, empathetic and able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Experienced in working with young people or vulnerable groups (desirable).
  • Knowledgeable about SEMH, trauma‑informed practice or SEND (desirable).
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
