Job summary

A children's support organization is seeking a Family Support Worker/Early Help Practitioner for a 3-month contract in Twickenham. You will work directly with families to provide interventions and support services aimed at promoting child wellbeing and preventing escalation to child protection. Ideal candidates will have a Level 3 qualification in Childcare and experience working with children and families. Immediate availability is required.

We are working closely with Achieving for Children to assist with the appointment of a Family Support Worker/Early Help Practitioner, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Overview

The Child and Family Help Team supports children, young people, and families through targeted early help and more specialist interventions, including work with children in need. The aim is to prevent escalation to child protection services by providing effective support at the earliest possible stage. As a Family Support Worker / Early Help Practitioner, you will work directly with families under the supervision of a qualified social worker, delivering interventions within both early help and statutory frameworks. You will be based across local hubs, youth centres, or offices, and will collaborate with a range of professionals and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families to assess needs and deliver tailored interventions.
  • Support children in need and their families through practical assistance, advocacy, and signposting to appropriate services.
  • Promote safeguarding and wellbeing, escalating concerns in line with statutory procedures and organisational policy.
  • Contribute to service development by sharing best practice and feedback to support continuous improvement.
Essentials
  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Youth Work, Social Care, or a related field
  • Proven experience of working directly with children, young people, and families in a support role.
  • Knowledge of child development, safeguarding legislation, and early help approaches.
Important information
  • You should be available to work immediately or at short notice.
  • You should have the right to work in the UK.
  • This role requires an Enhanced DBS.
