Fabric Manager

Location: City of London

Salary: £55,000

Are you a highly skilled carpenter with a passion for preserving historic buildings? We are looking for an experienced Fabric Manager to join our dedicated team and oversee the maintenance and preservation of our prestigious heritage site.

The Opportunity

This is an exceptional chance to lead a team responsible for maintaining the structural and aesthetic integrity of a unique London building. You'll play a crucial role in ensuring that all works are carried out to the highest standards, in line with heritage and conservation best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of multi-skilled fabric technicians and specialist contractors.

  • Develop and implement a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme for the building's fabric, including historic timber, masonry, and roofing.

  • Oversee all reactive and remedial works, ensuring they are completed efficiently and with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with listed building consent and conservation regulations.

  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential issues and ensure a safe working environment.

  • Manage budgets, raise purchase orders, and procure specialist materials and services.

  • Liaise directly with the client, building occupants, and conservation officers.

  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on support for complex carpentry tasks and other fabric-related issues.

What We're Looking For
  • Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery (or an equivalent qualification) is essential.

  • Proven experience as a supervisor or manager within the building maintenance sector.

  • Demonstrable experience working on a heritage or listed building site.

  • A strong understanding of conservation principles and a meticulous approach to historical preservation.

  • Excellent knowledge of building fabric, from traditional techniques to modern materials.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and client-facing skills.
