Job summary

About the role

The successful applicant will assist with patient admission for their procedure, helping and moving around the International Radiology Suite, learning conscious sedation techniques, obtaining ILS training, gaining knowledge and expertise in pain management, and supporting patients recovering from general anaesthesia.

We offer a stimulating, innovative setting and a training program that includes the Recovery GSTT course accredited by King’s College University, as well as the opportunity to work with GSTT on the ACORN research initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients’ needs and conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment.
  • Circulate in the International Radiology suite and support radiology procedures.
  • Sedate patients (once signed off as competent) and administer IV medications and blood products (training provided).
  • Assist the radiologist as a scrub nurse and recover post‑general anaesthesia patients.
  • Carry out clinical nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation from admission to discharge.
  • Apply evidence‑based nursing practice across designated clinical areas.
  • Ensure high‑quality care and a positive patient experience, respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Recognise and avoid situations detrimental to patient health and wellbeing.
  • Use observations to develop nursing assessments and devise care plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Take clear histories, maintain accurate documentation, and manage prescribed medication including transfusions.
  • Adhere to the NMC code, health and safety regulations, and local policies, including COSHH, fire, and manual handling.
  • Act as team leader/member/coordinator as necessary, giving and receiving reports.

  • Experience working in acute Trust settings is preferred.
