Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a experienced Estates Support Supervisor to join the busy Epsom Estates Maintenance Department at Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust.

The Post holder will be responsible for the support Estates Maintenance operational in-house personnel and external contractors ensuring individual training needs are analysed, planned and implemented in line with Trust and Departmental Policies and Procedures.

Act as competentent person for services including but not limited to Water safety, Heating, Ventilation and Medical Gas systems.

Work closely with the other mechanical and Electrical Supervisors and report to the Head of Estates.This is post would be suitable for a experienced, motivated and individual with a proven track record of working with management of semi skilled & trade staff and contractors at various levels with strong interpersonal and team working skills.

Main duties of the job
  • Coordinating maintenance operations: Ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with established protocols.
  • Managing maintenance teams: Leading and supervising maintenance staff to ensure high-quality service.
  • Conducting inspections: Regularly checking the condition of facilities and equipment to identify and address issues promptly.
  • Ensuring compliance: Adhering to safety regulations and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Training and development: Providing training to maintenance staff and ensuring their skills and knowledge are up-to-date.
  • Problem-solving: Resolving maintenance issues and implementing preventive measures to avoid future problems. A Maintenance Supervisor should have a solid understanding of various maintenance strategies and procedures, as well as the ability to manage and oversee maintenance tasks effectively. They should also possess strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work with a team to achieve common goals.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
  • To support and to deputise for the Operational Maintenance Manager in his/her absence, to ensure continuity is maintained and that the Property Maintenance Section delivers a high quality service to the Trust.
  • To attend regular, ad-hoc meetings on own behalf and also in the absence of the Operational Maintenance Manager, as and when required.
  • To manage and supervise all Maintenance Support Staff, painters and carpenters to ensure an effective and efficient workforce is provided.
  • To assist and support the Operational Maintenance Manager in ensuring the Property Maintenance Section operates within all Health and Safety guidelines, and that all Statutory and Mandatory obligations are met for the Trust.
  • To manage and take a lead role in ensuring all support staff are adequately trained and qualified to carry out their specific duties.
  • To demonstrate good leadership and provide technical knowledge on maintenance issues.
  • To be confident when working on complex plant and equipment.
