A regional police force in the United Kingdom is seeking a Detention Officer to assist with detainee reception and maintain custody environment security and welfare. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to manage challenging situations. Full training will be provided. This position involves shift work, including weekends, and a starting salary of £32,644 with increments up to £35,830.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for individuals to undertake the role of Detention Officer. In this role you will be required to assist in the reception of detainees into custody, carry out a wide range of unsupervised duties to ensure the safety, security, and hygiene of the custody environment. You will also monitor and maintain the welfare of the detainees and provide support to the Custody Officer.
This is a challenging role; therefore excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital along with the ability to demonstrate resilience in potentially difficult situations.
You must have good keyboard and computer skills and be able to utilise a range of internal packages and be aware of all relevant security policies and operating procedures.
Training will be provided at Essex Police College and locally and comprises a three-week course followed by a period of tutorship. There is a requirement to complete all training packages and achieve the required standard.
Core hours of work - a 6 on 4 off shift pattern covering the 24-hour period 365 days per year.
A starting salary of £27,204 whilst in training and then rises to the following on the 6 on 4 off shift pattern:
Starting salary of £32,644 with annual increments to £35,830 which includes a 20% shift allowance, when the full range of shift patterns are worked. Additional weekend working enhancements are also available and paid when worked.
The shift pattern available is subject to change.
Whilst you will be based at a specific station, there is a contractual requirement for you to provide cover within a nominated geographical area. You must therefore have access to a vehicle, with appropriate Business Use Insurance.
We have multiple opportunities in various locations, your preference of our vacancies will be discussed at interview stage. We are particularly looking for individuals that would be happy to work in the Harlow area.
