Responsibilities
  • Understand and proactively manage elective surgical waiting lists with consultants.
  • Book elective patients into appropriate theatre slots considering clinical urgency and waiting‑list time.
  • Book pre‑assessment appointments promptly and adjust lists if any patients fail pre‑assessment.
  • Coordinate special requirements (e.g., ITU beds, transport, joint operation surgeons).
  • Liaise with theatres to rebook or discharge cancelled or no‑attend patients.
  • Work closely with the PPWT team to ensure funding for specified theatre procedures is sought in line with guidelines.
Booking & Scheduling
  • Compile and update elective theatre lists on PAS (or Trust systems) and have them signed off by relevant surgical teams/management.
  • Offer patients a choice of admission dates and agree an admission date in line with the Patient Access Policy.
  • Create waiting‑list entries for patients requiring admission.
  • Book procedures ensuring patients are fully booked on PAS and send confirmation letters or telephone patients if booking at short notice.
  • Book patients chronologically or by clinical urgency and use theatre capacity proactively and efficiently.
  • Book HDU and ITU beds according to procedure nature or as requested by the surgical team.
  • Undertake booking of elective admissions for cancer patients and liaise with Cancer MDT Coordinators to schedule within cancer pathway targets.
