Job summary

About the Role

A local authority in the North West is seeking an experienced and motivated Food Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to join their Environmental Health team. This is a vital role focused on safeguarding public health, ensuring food businesses comply with legislation, and supporting the authority’s food safety programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out food hygiene inspections across Categories C and D, as well as new food business registrations.
  • Investigate and respond to food safety complaints and service requests.
  • Provide expert advice to food business operators on compliance with food hygiene legislation.
  • Prepare inspection reports, draft notices, and recommend remedial actions where required.
  • Work closely with colleagues and external stakeholders to ensure effective enforcement and public protection.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure all data is reliable and compliant with the authority’s Data Quality Policy.
  • Undertake occasional out‑of‑hours work to address urgent food safety issues.
About You
  • EHRB registration and full qualification as an Environmental Health Officer.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in food safety enforcement.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene legislation and inspection protocols.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
  • Confidence in preparing legal documentation and supporting enforcement proceedings.
