Talented People are recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor seeking an Environmental Coordinator to join their head office team in Small Dole. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in driving environmental excellence across multiple construction and infrastructure projects.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, developing management plans, overseeing monitoring programmes, and coordinating sustainability initiatives. This role combines technical expertise, stakeholder engagement, and a proactive approach to environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and permit applications.
  • Oversee monitoring programmes for air, water, noise, and biodiversity.
  • Analyse environmental data and prepare accurate reports for audits and clients.
  • Liaise with ecologists, archaeologists, and other specialists to integrate requirements into projects.
  • Coordinate environmental subconsultants to ensure timely and accurate project input.
  • Manage environmental permit and licence applications, including MMO and EA consents.
  • Provide environmental input for bid submissions and sustainability responses.
  • Lead environmental incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and promote environmental awareness across project teams.
  • Support internal and external ISO 14001 audits and maintain compliance documentation.
  • Assist with biodiversity net gain, carbon reduction, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of environmental management processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to align environmental and construction goals.
Skills and Experience Required
  • 3-5 years' experience in an environmental role within construction, civil engineering, or consultancy.
  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and permitting processes.
  • Proven experience in environmental management plans and compliance auditing.
  • Knowledge of monitoring techniques, sustainability, and carbon reduction practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365; experience with GIS or CDE platforms desirable.
  • Degree in Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • Practitioner membership of IEMA (or working towards).
  • Full UK driving licence and CSCS card required.
