Essential Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated, empathetic, and skilled professional who can drive progress and foster a love for English among all students.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is absolutely required.
  • Significant, proven experience teaching the English curriculum (Language and Literature) to students with a variety of SEN in UK schools.
  • A clear, up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate (or the willingness to process one immediately).
  • Strong, practical knowledge of effective SEN strategies specifically within the English subject area, including literacy intervention and communication aids.
  • Exceptional qualities of patience, innovation, robust behaviour management, and strong leadership within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

In this crucial teaching role, you will lead the academic and developmental success of your students in English. Your focus will be on accessible planning, targeted instruction, and collaboration.

  • Plan and deliver stimulating English lessons that are deeply differentiated to meet the individual learning needs (IEP targets) of SEN students, covering reading, writing, and spoken language.
  • Assess student literacy and language progress using both formal and informal methods, actively using data to modify and refine instructional pathways and resources.
  • Adapt and simplify complex English texts and materials to ensure full curriculum access for all students, making the subject engaging and relevant.
  • Work cooperatively with teaching assistants, parents, and specialist professionals (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists) to ensure consistent, comprehensive student support.
  • Establish a positive, inspiring, and well-regulated classroom culture, effectively managing behaviour to enable focused and productive English learning for everyone.
