A local governmental body is seeking an Energy and Net Zero Project Manager to lead projects supporting the decarbonisation of North Wales. You will manage project development, coordinate funding applications, and engage with key stakeholders in the energy sector. We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, who is passionate about decarbonising the system and positioning North Wales as a leading location for low carbon energy.

This unique position provides the opportunity to gain excellent experience in an exciting, rapidly growing sector. You will play an integral role in supporting the decarbonisation of the region's system in a way that brings in investment, creates jobs and sustainable growth. The role will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders in the sector, including local authorities, government, the private sector and our universities and colleges.

You will lead on the delivery of growth deal projects such as the Clean Energy Fund, coordinate the delivery of Local Area Energy Plans across North Wales, in addition to driving forward the actions from the North Wales Regional Energy Strategy.

We are looking for a problem solver with strong communication skills, capable of lateral thinking, taking the initiative and with leadership qualities. Good interpersonal and relationship building skills will be essential and the ability to interact and negotiate with a wide cross section of businesses, government departments, consultants, local authority members and officers.

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced project manager with a strong track record for delivery, contract management experience and an interest and understanding of decarbonising the system.

Responsibilities
  • Managing and supporting the development and delivery of projects through implementation, ensuring quality assurance throughout.
  • Progress funding applications for funding opportunities.
  • Support the coordination and oversight of programme management systems and practices.
  • Managing project budgets, monitoring expenditure and costs against delivered and realised project outputs.
Qualifications
  • Degree/postgraduate in a relevant field (or equivalent).
  • Relevant qualifications such as PRINCE 2 Practitioner or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of management methods, bid writing and/or business case development processes.
  • Experience of successful programme and/or project delivery to deadline and to budget.
  • Proven track record of effective public/stakeholder engagement with strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or previous experience within the low carbon energy sector and energy initiatives across the UK.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to produce high quality work on multiple priorities simultaneously.
Working Conditions and Pay

The team has adopted a hybrid working model with a mix of Llandudno Junction office based and home working. In return, you will receive a salary of £46,142-£48,226 per annum plus membership of the local government pension scheme and generous annual leave entitlement. This is a full‑time role with Ambition North Wales; however, we will consider flexible working requests for the right person. This is a three‑year, fixed‑term contract initially.
