A local government council in Telford is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) for its Emergency Duty Team. This full-time role offers a salary range of £48,226 - £51,356 with additional allowances. The successful candidate will provide critical social work services during emergencies affecting adults and children at risk. Strong communication skills and a background in emergency services are essential. The position requires registration with Social Work England and offers flexibility for job-share applicants.
We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join a dedicated and enthusiastic Emergency Duty Team (EDT). The role involves providing emergency social work services (statutory & non‑statutory) for adults and children at risk of significant harm, addressing a variety of social care emergencies, including child protection, adult safeguarding, homelessness, and complex mental health assessments where delay until the next working day would be detrimental. The EDT team operates outside of regular office hours, ensuring coverage from 17:00 to 09:00 on weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends and bank holidays.
This position requires a Social Work and AMHP qualification, substantial post‑qualification experience, and registration with Social Work England. Key skills include managing competing priorities, personal resilience, sound decision‑making, and excellent communication and negotiation abilities. You will be required to liaise with and work alongside all social care disciplines and partner agencies.
If you feel this role may be for you, we would be delighted to hear from you. For an informal discussion please contact Debbie Owen, Team Manager; e‑mail: debbie.owen@telford.gov.uk.
