Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Alder Hey Emergency Department to join our Reception team. The Emergency Department at Alder Hey is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year and provides accident and emergency care to children from birth to 16 years old to families across Liverpool and beyond. The department looks after over 70,000 patients a year, making this role well suited to someone who thrives on being busy and enjoys working in patient or customer facing roles. The team are often the first point of contact for families when they arrive at Alder Hey and can really make a difference to the families experience when they come.

Responsibilities
  • Registering patients on arrival to the Emergency Department.
  • Managing patient records and completing administration tasks relating to the patients’ journey, including admissions, discharges or appointment scheduling.
  • Work with a wide range of professionals both internally (porters, doctors, nurses, health care assistants, etc) and externally (Police, GPs, Paramedics, etc).
  • Undertake additional duties involved in office supply management, answering telephone queries and other administrative tasks as required.
Shift pattern and team context

There are a variety of hours available to suit most circumstances ranging from 10 hours to 30 hours. All successful candidates will be required to work shifts that include days, evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays, with a rota published at least six weeks in advance. Some shifts will be as the single receptionist, particularly at off-peak times, but always with the clinical Emergency Department team around.

Requirements and desirable qualities
  • The department welcomes applications from people who have a polite manner and good computer skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure.
  • There is a need to work with a wide range of professionals both internally and externally.
