The Electroplating Technician is responsible through the Plating Shop & Surface Finish Manager to the Operations Manager for:

  • The chemical processing of aircraft components and their sub-assemblies to support maintenance across various platforms/programmes supported by the business.
  • Periodic, lot testing, and solution analyses as described in customer-specific ASI and applicable Detailed Process Instructions (DPIs).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out chemical processing operations (including Nital Etch Inspection) in accordance with qualifications, authorizations, and current approved procedures, pollution prevention, and safety standards.
  • Perform periodic, lot testing, and solution analyses following authorized procedures and documentation.
  • Contribute to team targets and goals.
  • Comply with Tool Control Procedures as per relevant ABM procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings and reviews.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Undertake training and training others to ensure maximum flexibility and competence.
  • Perform additional duties within the team to support output.
  • Maintain cleanliness and remove debris from work areas promptly.
  • Mentor, train, and support apprentices and team members.
  • Ensure ongoing training is current and documentation is signed off.
  • Adhere to Quality, Safety, Environmental Management Systems, and Business Manuals.

Authorities

  • Authorized to perform chemical processing operations for which competence is recorded.
  • Authorized to carry out testing and analyses within recorded competence.
  • If holding a Cat B Stamp, authorized to self-certify and certify operations within approval codes.
  • Authorized to operate the Effluent Treatment Plant with appropriate training and competence.

Job Requirements

Education and Training (Essential)

  • Trainee Plater training.
  • Institute of Metal Finishing Chemical Process Training.
  • Knowledge of continuous process improvement tools, statistical techniques, and internal procedures.
  • Training in non-conformance root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Technical Requirements (Essential)

  • Ability to interpret work orders, source information, and detailed process instructions.
  • Authorized Cat B Stamp Holder with appropriate competencies and approval codes.
  • Ability to collect and analyze performance data related to chemical processing, reprocessing, rework, repairs, rejects, costs, turnaround times, waste, and scrap.
