Overview
Electrical System Technical Lead position for our client's Electrical Systems Team in Peterborough. You will design, develop and validate battery pack and electrical systems for a range of applications. 12 month contract, 37 hours per week. Monday to Thursday 08:30 – 16:45, Friday 08:30 – 16:00 (45 minute lunch).
Pay: £30.65 – £35.65 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Lead the detailed specification and design collaboration with key suppliers, defining detailed requirements based on program objectives and risk assessments (FMEA) of the electrical system, including high voltage and low voltage sub systems.
- Define system boundaries across battery cell to module, module to pack, pack to power system, and power system to electrified machine. Act as the electrical system architect and lead activities including 3D CAD design (CREO), schematics, harnessing, cable design and routing, and electrical system validation.
- Ensure robust technical and timing plans for current and future hardware requirements.
- Oversee component specification, evaluate supplier selections, and challenge as needed.
- Develop and own electrical system schematics, high voltage and control circuits, and align with battery, power, and machine systems.
- Collaborate with the validation team to ensure validation requirements and test plans at internal and external labs meet needs, and coordinate with software teams for compatibility and alignment.
- Demonstrate understanding of CPPD and APQP and manage a complex component with a supplier base for prototype and production materials.
- Own issue resolution and maintain issue tracking with progress and plans.
- Contribute to identifying electrical system requirements and their maintenance for successful end-user use.
- Identify and request simulation/VPD tasks to drive right-first-time delivery, sourced from internal resources or component suppliers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the UK, US, India and China on complex projects.
- Keep up to date with power electronics technologies, testing techniques and applicable legislation requirements.
Qualifications / Experience
- An accredited Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering subject.
- Relevant industrial experience in electrical system design and development.
- Experience in electric vehicle electrical system design and development (e.g., fuse, contactor and cable selection).
- Good problem solving and planning skills; ability to think strategically while delivering near-term results.
- Experience of CPPD and APQP.
- Knowledge of heavy-duty machine applications.
- Six Sigma experience, or equivalent structured problem-solving techniques.
- Experience with Automotive software tools.
- Experience with serial communication networks.
- Experience in designing and testing to meet EMC legislation.
