Electrical Controls Engineer - Electrical / Hardware / Control Panel Design - West Yorkshire - Permanent - £50-55k + 8% bonus + flexible hours

Samuel Frank is recruiting for an Electrical Controls Engineer to join a well-established engineering business based in West Yorkshire.

This Electrical Controls Engineer role is firmly focused on electrical hardware and control panel design, not PLC programming. The successful Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing safety‑critical electrical circuitry, including control panels used in hazardous and regulated environments.

The business has recently increased the size and complexity of the projects it delivers, creating long‑term development opportunities for an Electrical Controls Engineer with strong hardware design capability.

Key aspects of the Electrical Controls Engineer role include:

  • Electrical and controls hardware design with a strong emphasis on control panel design
  • Designing safety‑related electrical circuits, including emergency stop systems, interlocks and safety relays
  • Applying correct design philosophy for safety‑related and hazardous area equipment
  • Producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and panel layouts
  • Selecting and specifying safety‑rated components and control gear
  • Designing systems in line with Electrical / Controls legislation and Codes of Practice
  • Supporting ATEX and hazardous area design, including understanding zone classification impact on hardware design
  • Contributing to technical design reviews and engineering best practice

This Electrical Controls Engineer role will suit someone who:

  • Has a strong background in electrical hardware and control panel design
  • Has experience designing safety‑critical circuitry in industrial environments
  • Understands the design philosophy behind safety‑related control systems
  • Holds an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical or Controls Engineering
  • Is eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship

The Electrical Controls Engineer role is predominantly office‑based, with only occasional site visits.

The position is commutable from Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Halifax, Wakefield, Brighouse, Dewsbury and East Manchester.
