Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Barnsley is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to design and develop electrical control systems for hydraulic-powered machinery. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety standards and producing technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Electrical Engineering, along with experience in programming PLCs and understanding hydraulic systems.

Qualifications

Overview

A business with over 130 years of engineering excellence are looking for a skilled Electrical Controls Engineer to join their growing team of 10 Engineers, they specialise in the design and development of electrical control systems for power hydraulic equipment.

In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering robust, efficient, and safe control solutions for a range of hydraulic-powered machinery used across industrial applications.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical control systems for power hydraulics, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
  • Specify and integrate components such as sensors, actuators, motors, PLCs, HMIs, and hydraulic power units.
  • Program and commission control systems (typically using PLCs and HMIs) to manage hydraulic functions.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation, including BOMs, functional specifications, and test plans.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
Qualifications / Experience
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience designing electrical control systems for hydraulic-powered equipment or similar machinery.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and their electrical interfaces.
  • Experience with functional safety and risk assessments (e.g. SIL, PL).
  • Knowledge of hydraulic component selection and system design would be an advantage.
