A local government authority in Wigan is looking for an Analyst to join the Education Business Intelligence Unit. In this role, you will create and implement business intelligence solutions to enhance education services and support data quality improvements. The ideal candidate should have experience with SQL, Microsoft Excel, and Power BI, and possess strong communication skills for liaising with various stakeholders. A commitment to service improvement and the ability to manage conflicting priorities is essential.
Working as an Analyst within the Education Business Intelligence Unit, you will create and implement education business intelligence solutions, produce performance management products and support data quality improvements. You will work across all phases of education (nursery, primary, secondary and post 16) as well with SEND data.
You will use SQL, Microsoft Excel, Power BI and other tools to create actionable insights to support the education service in the duties. You will interpret data and use it to tell a story. One of the vacancies will be specifically focussed on creating Power BI dashboards using SQL.
You will have experience of analysing, interpreting and reporting on diverse management information and have evidence of using a variety of software packages (for example Power Bi and SQL) to analyse and produce management information reports and dashboards.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be able to liaise effectively with individuals from all levels of our organisation.
You will have experience of identifying and recognising problems and suggesting or implementing solutions leading to service improvements.
You will have experience of managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines, whilst maintaining a positive and professional outlook.

The team delivers 3 service level agreements for our customers: education performance analysis products; management information systems (MIS) support; and a free school meal checking service; as well as statutory functions for the Local Authority. We also provide data analysis and insights for the Local Authority and specifically Children s Services and work closely with the service. We are part of the Performance and Insight Unit which supports the Council in its Data Strategy and use of business intelligence to inform the services provided to residents.
