Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care and support service including all elements of personal care and hygiene, while maintaining independence and dignity at all times.
- Ensure social support for residents, encouraging and facilitating their interests and meaningful activities.
- Assist with resident health and well‑being including nutrition, medication/creams, mobility, shopping/health appointments and welcoming visitors.
- Formulate, review and maintain resident care plans and paperwork, working in line with regulatory bodies and policy (GDPR, CQC, HSE, Local Authority expectations).
- Build and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across and externally to St Monica Trust.
- Undertake housekeeping and laundry duties as necessary for residents.
- Adopt an appropriate style and approach to situations, pre‑empt issues, troubleshoot and refer decisions to the line manager.
- Identify and recommend learning and development areas for colleagues and suggest new ways of working to promote unit and team efficiency.
- Demonstrate interest, care and attention, create a positive impression, and collaborate with residents tailoring service to meet individual needs.
- Promptly respond to or refer to the team leader/line manager on issues of residents or colleagues' health or well‑being.
- Understand the needs of older people and people with dementia, and be aware of cultural and individual differences in all interactions.
- Work effectively as part of a team, build relationships of trust with team, residents, family and friends, and manage exposure to challenging, physical or emotional situations.
- Carry out duties in compliance with St Monica Trust's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
Qualifications
- Write notes and messages – numeracy, literacy and verbal skills.
- Communicate with people with differing communication needs.
- Encourage and influence.
- Understand and follow instructions and procedures.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Mixed methods and mediums of communication.
- Understanding of the needs of older people, including dementia and complex care needs.
- Ability to attend to personal care needs – including helping with food, bathing, toileting.
- Good level of IT skills (Microsoft packages).
- Care certificate or willingness to work towards Care Certificate.
- First Aid, food hygiene and Manual Handling (desirable).
