Overview
Serco Limited – Domestic Assistant at Harplands Hospital, Stoke. Part Time – Monday – Friday 16:00 – 20:00 (20 hours per week). Salary: £24,169.00 pro rata per annum plus Serco benefits.
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain the work area in line with work schedules and in an efficient manner, ensuring a safe environment for all.
- Follow best practice procedures associated with cleaning and control of infection.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is used correctly and cleaned and stored after use; check equipment before use for faults.
- Set tables and correctly serve patients with three main meals per day, plus drinks/snacks; take the temperature of meals before serving.
- Keep accurate records of all food temperatures and daily food wastage. Clear and load the dishwasher with patients’ crockery and cutlery, ensuring sufficient items for each mealtime. Liaise with nurses and catering staff regarding numbers and special dietary requirements. Assist patients in choosing their meals and drinks as needed. Be helpful, friendly, professional and compassionate with all patients, visitors and staff.
- Participate in any other required training.
- Ensure good communication with patients, visitors, staff and colleagues in the unit.
- Undertake other duties as required, following appropriate training.
- Co-operate fully to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Take reasonable care of your own safety and that of others. Avoid acts that could adversely affect safety, welfare, or sustainability. Follow fire safety procedures as directed.
What you’ll need to do the role
- Good standard of general education, and good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
- Ability to obtain certificates in Food Hygiene or NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Cleaning; Building interiors; Basic Health and Safety or Basic Food Hygiene.
- Experience in a customer-focused environment.
- Good common sense; able to work with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of maintaining a clean environment and able to communicate clearly with others.
- Be sensitive and understanding; able to use own initiative; receptive to change.
- Reliable, confident, compassionate, flexible and caring; able to react calmly and work well as part of a team.
- Live within an acceptable travelling time of the Hospital.
- Able to work additional hours often without prior notice when required.
