Job description

A client within the Public Sector based in the Southwest is recruiting a Disrepair Surveyor for their Housing and Landlord Services team. This is a full‑time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, ideal for someone with experience working in a local authority housing and repairs environment. The client is looking to move quickly and offers £295 per day Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £230 per day PAYE).

The Role

The key purpose of the role is to manage housing condition claims received as legal disrepair cases, working closely with Legal Services to ensure claims are thoroughly investigated, resolved efficiently, and completed with minimal litigation. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality repairs, managing customer expectations, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage disrepair claims from end to end, including inspections, diagnosis of defects, and specification of remedial works
  • Carry out condition surveys, technical inspections, and prepare detailed reports, schedules of works, and witness statements
  • Project manage disrepair works, supervising contractors and in‑house teams to ensure works are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard
  • Act as Contract Administrator, Supervisor, and Project Manager for allocated cases
  • Liaise with tenants, legal services, contractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and high customer satisfaction
  • Support compensation assessments and provide professional advice in line with Housing Ombudsman guidance
  • Act as a professional witness in legal proceedings where required
The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will need the following:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Building Surveying, Construction, or a related discipline
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CIOB) or working towards one
  • Relevant Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH or NEBOSH – desirable)

The following skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Proven experience managing housing disrepair claims within a local authority or social housing setting
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, repairs standards, and disrepair legal processes
