We collaborate with other KPMG functions to advise on mergers, valuations, tax, and due diligence.

Power & Utilities (P&U) is the largest IAG business area, serving major UK utilities and leading energy and water companies across Europe. We provide strategic and technical advice on business planning, regulation, finance, and policy to create value for shareholders and customers. Our work involves policy, finance, economics, and strategy to structure investments, secure financing, and support regulatory regimes, positioning us as market leaders in the utilities sector.

Our P&U division includes Finance, Projects, Strategy, Regulation, Transactions, and Benchmarking, experiencing double-digit growth over the past decade. We seek high-quality candidates to support our expansion and service development.

The Role

You will join the leading provider of regulatory and corporate finance consultancy in the utilities sector, within the Finance practice. As a Director, you will provide senior leadership, work closely with other Directors and Partners, and focus on building our corporate financial management practice, leading debt capital raising transactions, particularly in UK regulated utilities, with opportunities in regulatory finance projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop corporate financial management propositions, including capital structure advisory, ratings advisory, and financial modelling for power and utility clients.
  • Conduct credit assessments and analyze debt capacity, advising on market-based funding options and terms.
  • Lead and execute debt advisory transactions, including refinancing, structured finance, and capital raising, in collaboration with KPMG specialists.
  • Apply a corporate finance perspective to regulatory finance mandates, including assessments of financeability.
  • Build and maintain client relationships with utilities, infrastructure funds, and financial institutions.
  • Nurture and develop talent within the team, including performance management, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Foster networks and partnerships across P&U and KPMG, supporting a 'go to market' strategy.
  • Lead client engagements, oversee documentation and presentations, and ensure quality and risk standards.
  • Develop sector-specific market intelligence.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the senior role.

  • Strong knowledge of debt products, derivatives, and financing structures.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure and project finance rating methodologies.
  • Proficiency in corporate and project finance modelling, with leadership capabilities for junior staff.
  • Deep understanding of UK and European utilities sectors, including regulatory frameworks and policies.
  • Experience with RAB-based and other regulatory regimes and principles.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to develop new practice areas.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and mentor colleagues.
  • Experience managing and leading high-performing teams.
