Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a developmental band 6 within the ICU team. We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated ICU nurses who wish to develop their leadership skills post ICU courses. You will be supported by our senior nurses and education team to develop your knowledge, skills and attitude to become a competent and confident band 6 ICU nurse. We will provide:

  • Supernumerary orientation, individually tailored to your professional needs.
  • In‑house leadership programme.
Responsibilities
  • Work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients.
  • Assess care and health education needs.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient.
  • Designate to manage the ward/department and/or act as deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility.
  • Promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy.
  • Review nursing practice and implement appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
  • Develop and implement audit, quality and risk management initiatives.
  • Participate in clinical supervision appropriately, teaching and acting as a facilitator, mentor or preceptor to nursing or non‑nursing staff.
  • Work clinically within the multidisciplinary team, maintain high standards of practice while supporting staff shift‑by‑shift.
  • Provide clinical leadership and decision‑making.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage time by prioritising and organising working.
  • Show current personal development; have a good understanding and involvement in improving patient safety, risk reduction and development of others and general support for peers, junior and senior colleagues.
