Job Title: Design Engineer - Stress Analyst

Murphy is recruiting for a Design Engineer - Stress Analyst. Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplinary range of engineering skills, adding value across all our sectors, and pushing the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation and design to deliver intelligent, sustainable and economical engineering solutions. Our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.

A day in the life of a Murphy Design Engineer - Stress Analyst

Responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, including IGEM/TD/12.
  • Collaborating with design engineers to optimize piping layouts and support systems.
  • Undertaking site visits, conducting field inspections and provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Preparing detailed stress analysis reports and recommend solutions for identified issues.
  • Evaluating material selection, wall thickness, and load conditions to ensure system integrity.
  • Staying updated on industry trends, standards, and best practices in piping stress analysis.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or working towards chartership.
  • Proficiency in stress analysis software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, material properties, and mechanics of materials.
  • Familiarity with IGEM/TD/12 and other relevant codes (e.g., ASME B31.3, B31.1).
  • Experience in Oil & Gas sector and familiarisation with the IGEM Suite of standards for Gas Pipeline and Installations as well as other National and International Pipeline codes.
  • Experience of interfacing with Clients such as National Gas Transmission and Cadent and knowledge of their Specifications and Standards including the G/17 and G/35 design assurance process.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Good technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders.
