Design Engineer

Location: Dudley

As we grow, we're looking for a talented and motivated Design Office Manager to join our dynamic Design team and help shape the next generation of our manufacturing solutions.

The role will specialise in the design of retail equipment within Interior Shop Fit Outs. Knowledge of CAD Design, familiarity with SolidWorks, and a background in retail shopfitting are essential. The candidate should be able to work as part of a team and follow instructions but also act independently, working to tight deadlines and schedules. Responsibilities include creating full production drawing packs, generating cutting lists and requisition sheets, and supporting the team to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

As a Design Engineer, you will create detailed, manufacturable technical drawings for products such as sheet metal, welded assemblies, joinery components, and specialty materials like acrylic and glass. You will collaborate with Production, Contracts, and the wider Design team to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements. This is a hands-on, technically demanding role ideal for someone passionate about manufacturing and precision design.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

• Create accurate, detailed technical drawings for a range of materials including sheet metal, joinery, welded assemblies, acrylic, and glass.
• Work closely with Production, Contracts, and Design teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and ready for manufacture.
• Produce detailed CAD models and drawings, optimize for manufacturability, and support value engineering.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to streamline processes and ensure design practicality.
• Prepare and issue manufacturing drawings and documentation.
• Generate 3D visuals and prototypes for client presentations.
• Maintain component part numbers, BOMs, and routings.
• Conduct site surveys for accurate data collection.
• Attend meetings to understand project requirements and communicate design concepts.
• Proactively report issues related to design, quality, or manufacturing.

• Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques, especially sheet metal and joinery.
