Job summary

A well-established company in the refrigeration sector seeks a Design & Applications Engineer to manage projects from concept to completion. The successful candidate will provide technical support, oversee project execution, and ensure profitable outcomes. Ideal applicants will have a recognised engineering qualification, at least 5 years of relevant experience, and a strong knowledge of refrigeration systems. This permanent position offers a competitive salary between £54,000 - £64,000, along with additional benefits including a company vehicle and private medical insurance.

Qualifications

Job description

We are proud to be partnering with a well-established and respected business in the refrigeration and process cooling industry, currently looking to recruit a Design & Applications Engineer to join their regional projects team in the South of the UK.

This is a permanent role, offering the chance to join a forward-thinking company known for technical excellence and long-standing client relationships. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing contract works from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities as Design & Applications Engineer :
  • Design solutions and manage projects from estimation through to execution in the refrigeration and process cooling sector
  • Provide technical support and guidance to both new and existing clients
  • Carry out technical calculations, including heat load and pipe sizing for direct and indirect systems
  • Allocate subcontract labour and ensure successful technical and financial project outcomes
Ideal Candidate as Design & Applications Engineer :
  • Technically strong, with hands‑on knowledge of refrigeration and process cooling systems
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to price, quote, and deliver profitable projects
  • Personable, proactive and confident in a customer‑facing role alongside Sales Managers
  • Organised and flexible, willing to travel throughout the region
  • A team player with a positive, can‑do attitude and strong project management skills

Required Experience & Qualifications as Design & Applications Engineer :

  • Recognised Engineering qualification / experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role within the refrigeration / process cooling industry
  • Experience quoting (alongside Sales Manager) and supporting technical work in refrigeration / air conditioning
  • Knowledge of DX and pumped fluid systems, and refrigerants including HFCs, NH₃ (Ammonia), and CO₂
  • Understanding of modern refrigeration control systems
