Job description
Overview

As a voluntary-aided school of over 2,000 students including a thriving Sixth Form of over 500 students, JFS is one of the top schools in the country for attainment and progress, and a place where we hope children grow into excellent adults prepared for everything ahead of them. Named one of the top-performing state schools of the year in the Sunday Times rankings and achieving a Progress 8 score of +1.16, we are proud of our results and recognise they form only part of what schools should aim to achieve. We are seeking someone who is a fantastic classroom practitioner and motivated by developing both children and adults. Our wish to build a truly exceptional school is founded upon building an enthusiastic, caring and talented staff; nothing is more important to us than the people we work with. By way of support for anyone who joins us, you will work in a superb, well-resourced and highly capable department.

Role

We are looking to appoint a Deputy SENDCO on the Leadership Scale. This is a key leadership role, working closely with the school's Assistant Headteacher for SEND to ensure that students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) receive the highest quality support and provision. The successful candidate will be committed to inclusion and passionate about helping young people with additional needs to thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Responsibilities
  • Student Support: Provide targeted support for SEND students, helping to identify and meet their individual needs.
  • Administration: Manage SEND records, oversee assessments (including access arrangements), and support the preparation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Liaison: Act as a key point of contact for parents, carers, external agencies, and colleagues across the school.
  • Coordination: Assist the Assistant Headteacher for SEND in leading interventions, coordinating the SEND team, and running key meetings such as Annual Reviews.
  • Transition Support: Take a lead role in ensuring effective transition arrangements at key points, including from primary to secondary and across key stages.
  • Monitoring: Track and evaluate the progress of SEND students, ensuring accurate and up-to-date data informs decision-making.
  • Safeguarding: Uphold child protection procedures and report any concerns around student welfare promptly.
  • Quality Assurance: Promote high standards, inclusive practice, and consistency across the provision for SEND students and staff.
Environment and About Us

Beyond departmental and leadership support, the school aims to minimise distractions: staff are not expected to run detentions, meetings are kept to a minimum, and duties are extremely limited. Classes are calm and purposeful, and our students are eager to succeed. Alongside strong lessons, our students also receive high-quality pastoral care across the board. We have a team of 17 full-time professionals coordinating our provision and, at a time when external services are hard to access, we are proud of the in-school support we provide. JFS is a school where relationships matter, where warmth and laughter are possible because boundaries are clear and where our teachers hold high expectations for our students.
