Help shape the future of medical education and workforce development in Wales. We are seeking a Deputy Medical Director to join our senior leadership team, working across a Directorate that includes Pharmacy, Dental, Optometry and the Revalidation Support Unit. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence postgraduate medical education and drive workforce transformation at a national level. As Deputy Medical Director, you will play a key leadership role within HEIW's Medical Directorate, working closely with the Executive Medical Director and senior colleagues to deliver strategic priorities. You will:

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership across medical education, training, and workforce development
  • Deputise for the Executive Medical Director in national forums and internal governance
  • Lead on quality and safety across all functions in the Medical Directorate, including embedding HEIW's Quality Framework
  • Act as Deputy Responsible Officer for postgraduate doctors in training, supporting revalidation and professional standards
  • Collaborate with Welsh Government, NHS Wales, regulators, and education providers to shape national policy
  • Contribute to corporate planning, including the Education and Training Plan and Integrated Medium Term Plan (IMTP)
  • Support the development of multi‑professional and interprofessional education and workforce transformation
