Role Purpose:

To support the Registered Manager in the operational and strategic management of the residential care home. The Deputy Manager will ensure that care delivery is of the highest quality, safe, compliant, and focused on the individual needs of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership

Act as the designated lead in the absence of the Registered Manager

Assist in delivering and upholding the home’s Statement of Purpose

Support with compliance, quality assurance, audits, and home development plans

Contribute to the ongoing delivery of therapeutic, child-centred care practices

Team and Staff Management

Supervise, appraise, and support residential care staff

Assist with recruitment, onboarding, training, and development

Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes excellence and growth

Ensure consistent communication and uphold professional boundaries

Care and Safeguarding

Champion the safeguarding and welfare of all residents

Maintain oversight of care planning, key work, and daily routines

Monitor risk assessments, health and safety practices, and safeguarding protocols

Work collaboratively with external agencies, parents/carers, and professionals

Quality and Compliance

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, the Children Act 1989, and Ofsted inspection frameworks

Promote equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practices across all areas

Ensure records, reporting, and administrative functions are completed accurately and timely

Support preparation for and participation in Ofsted inspections

NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent); Level 5 Leadership & Management preferred or willingness to work towards

Proven experience in a senior residential childcare role

Strong understanding of children’s residential regulations and safeguarding practices

Ability to manage complex behaviours and respond to crisis situations effectively

Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Commitment to a child-centred and trauma-informed approach
