Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head within the Hair Beauty, Hospitality and Catering department at Cardiff and Vale College. This role will be based across campuses.

Responsibilities
  • To lead, motivate & inspire the individuals, teams and learners within your department.
  • Plan work‑related opportunities to equip learners with skills to be creative, confident and resilient in the workplace.
  • Implement plans to ensure effective collaboration between teaching teams, the Employment and Enterprise Bureau and the Careers and Ideas Team.
  • Monitor the quality and uptake of initial assessments, ensuring ILPs are tailored to meet the learners' needs and aspirations.
  • Develop curriculum that effectively meets the needs of individuals, employers and the community you serve, taking account of sector priorities related to the department.
  • Implement commercial and income‑generating opportunities for the department as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Carry out the Duty Manager’s role during the day and/or evening as part of a rota system to be determined at any of the College sites.
  • Develop strong links with the Sector Skills Council, employers and schools in partnership with other organisations.
  • Welsh language skills would be desirable for this role.

We would consider this role as one full DHOD or two 0.5 FTE DHOD's with teaching responsibilities.

Interview Process

Interviews are due to take place on 12th December 2025. For this interview you will be required to prepare and deliver a 10‑minute presentation on the following subject: What key priorities will you focus on within your first 12 months in the role?
