Summary

The University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Pharmacist to join our Trauma and Orthopaedics team. This permanent position offers an opportunity to play a critical role in providing and developing a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Guidance and Professional Leadership
  • Provide expert strategic guidance on clinical pharmacy issues specific to Trauma and Orthopaedics.
  • Lead and influence safe and cost-effective drug therapy, including new drug evaluations, financial reporting, and policy development.
  • Work collaboratively with senior clinical staff to review and develop policies ensuring compliance with legal, best practice, and national guidelines.
Clinical Service Development
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings to offer expert pharmaceutical advice.
  • Identify and encourage improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceutical care and prescribing.
  • Undertake risk management and develop audits related to the supply, storage, and administration of medicines.
Education and Training
  • Lead, develop, and deliver educational programs related to pharmaceutical care in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
  • Train and manage junior rotational staff, including aspects of day-to-day line management.
  • Act as a diploma tutor and trainee designated supervisor as needed.
Research and Audit
  • Foster an environment conducive to clinical and practice-based research and audit.
  • Contribute to current and future research projects associated with drug use in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
Clinical Expertise and Team Leadership
  • Serve as a team leader for the clinical pharmacy team within your designated area.
  • Act as an expert practitioner, providing advice and consultancy on pharmaceutical aspects to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in consultant ward rounds as part of the multidisciplinary team and support prescribing on the ward as an independent prescriber.
