Job summary

A National Health Service provider is seeking a qualified Day Treatment Centre Nurse to support patients in surgical procedures within urology. The role requires excellent clinical skills, effective communication, and a commitment to high standards of care. Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with strong surgical nursing skills, preferably in urology.

Responsibilities

Job description
Day Treatment Centre ward/Treatment Room Nurse

The post is for a qualified nurse who wants to further their experience and skills in surgical nursing mainly in urology field. The post holder is also expected to have a flexible "can do" approach in ensuring the work of the department is carried out to the required high standards. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate excellent clinical skills and teach other staff and learners. The post holder will also be expected to be an excellent role model and treat all staff, visitors and service users with tact and courtesy.

Main duties of the job

Provide support to the flexible cystoscopy clinic/treatment room and DTC ward.

Assist clinicians with carrying out minor procedures/ Flexible cystoscopy.

Provide support to patients during surgical and clinical procedures in DTC ward and Urology Flexible Cystoscopy/treatment room.

Monitor and maintain the quality of nursing activities and achieve the prescribed standards of nursing care set for the department.

Maintain effective communication and participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with the patient and their carer(s).Provide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Complete patient documentation correctly, appropriately and in a timely manner ensuring this is filed properly in the patients' medical notes.

To work in accordance with Whittington Health Nursing and Midwifery Strategy and contribute towards achieving objectives.

Develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care including referring patient to community services when necessary.

  • Acting as a member of the Day Treatment Centre Ward.
  • To provide urology advice and education to patients, staff and learners within the directorate as required.
  • To develop communication networks across specialities and throughout the multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities

Health, Safety and Security

Develop an awareness of personal responsibility with regards to maintenance of a clean environment that is conducive to safe, therapeutic, and ethical practice

Be accountable for and ensure own competence in practice, e.g., use of specialised equipment in flexible cystoscopy clinic use of specialised Stack machine. Complete understanding of IHSS policy.

Decontamination any equipment in line with Trust policy and any local Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for specialised equipment

Be aware of own personal/professional limitations and seek help of others to maintain safe practice

Assist in promoting nursing practice and care delivery in line with relevant research and evidence base and with reference to trust policies and guidelines

Identify potential risks for all staff, patients, carers, and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures in line with trust policy

Assist with safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with local and trust policy and legal requirements

Handle and dispose of all body fluids in accordance with universal precautions

Ensure flexible cystoscopy /treatment room is well stocked and fully prepared.

Education / Qualifications
  • RGN/RN.
  • Proof of Part 1 Registration with NMC
