Job description
What Youll Be Doing

As a Data Technology Manager, youll play a pivotal role in shaping and modernising our data strategy and technology stack, ensuring our approach is forward-thinking, efficient, and built on best practice. Reporting to the Head of Data Technology and CRM, youll not only set the vision for our data architecture, but also stay close to the action: building, problem-solving, and delivering solutions alongside your team.

This is a role where youll lead from the front, providing technical guidance, hands-on expertise, and strategic direction in equal measure. Youll oversee the modernisation of our Azure-based data environment, champion scalable and resilient data pipelines, and drive adoption of tools such as Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and Delta Lake.

Working across all areas of the IET, youll ensure our data is secure, accessible, and delivering maximum value for analytics, business intelligence, and operational excellence. Youll foster a culture of technical excellence in the Data team, guiding offshore development, collaborating with business stakeholders, and making impactful architectural decisions that keep us at the forefront of innovation.

What Youll Bring

Were looking for a hands-on leader, someone with deep technical credibility in data engineering, but also the strategic insight to shape organisation-wide data strategies. Youll have extensive experience with Azure data technologies, a track record of delivering high-quality, scalable solutions, and the leadership skills to inspire and develop a high-performing team.

Youll be just as comfortable in a design meeting as you are debugging a pipeline or building a proof-of-concept. Your ability to balance big-picture thinking with practical delivery will be key to your success.

A Little More About The Role
  • Lead and modernise The IETs data architecture, ensuring alignment with best practice and strategic goals.
  • Drive adoption of Azure data technologies such as Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, and Delta Lake.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, resilient data pipelines to support analytics and reporting.
  • Stay hands-on in solving technical challenges, implementing solutions, and ensuring the reliability of our data platforms.
  • Introduce and enhance self-service reporting capabilities for stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Work closely with analytics and business teams to optimise data accessibility, usability, and quality.
  • Collaborate with Information Security to implement robust data security measures.
  • Design and deliver advanced analytics and BI solutions using tools such as Power BI.
  • Lead and develop the Data team, including offshore contributors, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Keep ahead of industry trends to ensure The IET remains at the forefront of data technology innovation.
A Little More About What Were Looking For
  • Proven experience in a senior data engineering role, ideally with team leadership responsibilities.

  • Confidence in both strategic planning and hands-on delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and experience in Agile environments.
  • Technical credibility in architectural decision-making and governance best practice.
  • Proactive approach to innovation, process improvement, and continuous learning.
  • Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate certification (desirable) and exposure to Power Platform.
