Job description
Overview

Apprenticeship Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician with Midlands Truck & Van Ltd in Wolverhampton, WV11 3DR. Candidates work alongside Daimler qualified technicians to receive extensive training in maintaining HGVs. This hands‑on role focuses on problem solving and teamwork.

Responsibilities
  • Work alongside a qualified Technician to learn how to carry out repairs according to Daimler procedures in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Be trained on how to service, maintain and repair Daimler vehicles which have the latest technology.
  • Learn the fundamentals of heavy vehicle technologies – heavy vehicle chassis, engine, fuels, transmissions, hydraulic and air braking, electrical systems, and testing.
  • Be taught how to set up accessories and specific equipment on the vehicles.
  • Ensure appropriate work logs are kept for all vehicles, and all job cards and service sheets are completed in a timely manner.
  • Keep high levels of morale and focus to ensure the highest possible levels of productive efficiency, quality of workmanship, and production finish in order to sustain growth in customer confidence in the service provided.
  • Carry out basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV.
  • Keep updated with emerging new technologies within the HV industry.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes.
  • Access specific and related HV technical information appropriately.
  • Service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and vehicle standards agency (DVSA) and manufacturers' standards.
  • Use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV's.
  • Successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester's manual.
  • Carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes.
  • Maintain records to company and operators' licence obligations and regulation.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums internally and with customers on a range of topics that support HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.
Qualifications

IMI Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3. GCSE or equivalent in: Maths (grade 4/C) and English (grade 4/C). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience.

Required attributes: attention to detail, enthusiasm to learn, mechanically minded, physical fitness.

Training Schedule

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to the Daimler Training Academy in Derby. 32 month programme: 16 x 1 week blocks. Employer covers hotel accommodation, food and travel. 1‑2‑1 support from Development Coach to help you achieve.
